As investors you always have the right to look for a higher return on your investment. So why not look for a higher Jumbo CD rates.

Jumbo Cds are accounts that require large sums of investment by the prospective investors. Jumbo Cds are a specific kind of savings account where the amount of minimum deposit is set by the bank. You can open a Jumbo account with the minimum amount advised on by the bank. Typically a bank expects a deposit of around 100,000 USD to be considered a qualifying and accepted deposit for Jumbo CD. More often than not a lock in period for the amount of money invested is provided by the bank. That kind of money involves a higher rate of interest. The bank as a return of investment offers a higher rate of interest which works out good for those investors who are willing to deposit their hard earned money into a Jumbo account.

In comparison to the other types of accounts, the rate of interest in a Jumbo CD is relatively higher. At one point of time the Jumbo CD rates shot up to a all time high of 5.5% APY. The rates keep changing as the investment market is as volatile as can be and have fluctuations that are frequent. What holds good for this week may not be so in the next or the week after. Sometimes the rates offered by different banks are different and varied. It would be an ideal situation to go online and check the bank sites and see what rates they are offering. More often than not, banks compete with each other in order to get investment and therefore bait the investors with higher rates of interest. The banks also promote the Annual Percentage Yield (APY) factor as they also add up to the total earnings after the interests are compounded over a period of time.

In addition to baiting the prospective investors with their Annual percentage yield on the Jumbo CD the banks also offer compounding interest on the Jumbo CDs on a monthly basis or on a quarterly basis. Obviously, an interest that is compounded frequently will generate a higher annual percentage yield.

Though the initial deposit is high on a Jumbo CD, it is a safe way to invest money and get higher returns. Since it is protected by Federal Deposit Insurance Corporartion, the safety factor is enhanced.
